These standards apply to everything we publish and send, paid or free.
They set out how we source and check our work, how we fix mistakes, and who answers for it.
What we are for
We read what the world publishes and judge what matters. For a client, that means the few items worth acting on in their market. In public, it means showing how the same story is reported around the world. Both are held to the standards below.
Sourcing
- Every item in a report and every published analysis links back to its original source.
- We use public sources only, and we turn down any scope that would require anything else.
- Before an outlet is presented as a country’s voice, we verify that it genuinely is one: a masthead named for a country with no newsroom there is not treated as that nation’s press, wire copy carried by many outlets is treated as one voice rather than many, and an independent newsroom operating in exile is identified as such. When a nation’s own press is silent on a story, we say so rather than substitute for it.
- For the public analysis, we draw on outlets from different countries and across the political spectrum, so that no single perspective dominates.
- Everything has to earn its place. In a report, a borderline item is left out rather than carried. In public, a story must both genuinely matter and show a difference in coverage worth analyzing, and when nothing clears that bar, we publish nothing.
- We summarize and link; we do not reproduce other outlets’ work in full.
Accuracy and verification
We report the verified core of a story — the facts on which our sources broadly agree — and we keep that factual core clearly separate from interpretation and framing. Where sources conflict, we aim to reflect that disagreement rather than paper over it. We do not knowingly present unverified claims as established fact. Nor do we claim an outlet omitted something unless we have verified the omission against its actual reporting.
Corrections
We would always rather fix an error than defend it. If you believe something we published contains a factual error, email [email protected] with the headline and a description of the problem. We review every correction request, amend the analysis promptly where warranted, and make significant corrections transparently. Every correction we issue is logged publicly on our Corrections page.
Independence and funding
The Intelligence Bulletin is editorially independent. It is not affiliated with, funded by, or directed by any government, political party, or news organization. No advertiser, source, or third party has any influence over which stories we cover or how we cover them.
How we use AI
AI does most of the reading and drafting behind our work, and we say so plainly rather than presenting it as human-written. People decide the rest. For a report, our experts scope it with you, retune its sources and rules as your priorities change, and review it with you on a set schedule. The public analysis follows a written editorial charter, and changing what the system does means changing that charter first, on the record, by a person. We check the output continually and welcome feedback on it. Every analysis is published under a named author, and responsibility for what appears here rests with that person, not with a model. Fairness, not false balance
Our aim is range, not artificial equivalence. We do not adjudicate which national or political perspective is “correct”; we present them side by side and let readers weigh them. Where a story has a clear factual record, we do not give equal footing to claims that contradict it.
Respecting publishers and copyright
We respect the work of the journalists and outlets we draw on. We quote and summarize within the bounds of fair use, always attribute and link to the original, and never republish full articles. All source material remains the property of its respective publishers. If you are a rights-holder with a concern, please contact us.
Privacy
We collect only the information needed to run the site and our emails, and we never sell reader data. A full privacy policy is available separately.
